Five ways to decorate your table for Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving holiday is a time to celebrate the arrival of fall, to be thankful for the bountiful harvest and to gather those you love around a table that will wow them.
As your fall accomplices, we offer four ideas to heighten your table display.
A rich colour palette
Get tableware, serving platters and placemats in warm fall colours. Burnt orange, forest green or burgundy red will look great against a classic white tablecloth.
Seasonal foods
Since Thanksgiving is a time of abundance and harvest, use seasonal foods like apples, squash, dried corn on the cob and garlic braids as table decorations. For a chic effect, spray the food with gold or white spray paint and let it dry.
Nature backdrop
Go for a walk outside and pick up some pinecones, colourful leaves and grass branches to decorate your table in a rustic setting and economical way. Paint the leaves and write your guests' names on them as place cards, place the pinecones in a large glass vase or arrange them loosely on the tablecloth. Grasses can be cut and placed in champagne flutes.
Unique candles
To create unique candles that will get people talking, dig a lantern-sized hole in the centre of several miniature pumpkins and place a lantern inside. Place them all over the table for beautiful decor.
Rustic table runner
Get a simple jute roll from a garden centre or art supply store and place a large, wide strip along the length of your table over your tablecloth as a table runner. You could also cut out the skirt to create placemats.
